Nokia Plans To Sell 150 Million Symbian Handsets

Nokia Plans To Sell 150 Million Symbian Handsets

The end of Symbian might be just above the horizon, but Nokia is still putting support behind the platform due to legal obligations.

Nokia plans a massive 150 million Symbian devices during the Windows Phone 7 transition, not only that, but come summer 2011, Nokia promises to update Symbian handsets with a new UI and a few features. Nokia's legal obligation is forcing them to put this much support out for Symbian, even though it will be phased out for Windows Phone 7, so there is no point developers should waste time and money on the platform, drop it and move on.

Samsung Trying To Court Former Symbian Developers To Bada OS

Samsung Trying To Court Former Symbian Developers To Bada OS

Symbian is all but dead, we don't see a return for the OS ever so there are no reasons for developers to continue supporting the platform, hence why Samsung is trying to poach Symbian developers for their Bada OS.

We do not see a problem with Samsung calling for Symbian developers, but the question is this, why should they put their time and effort towards Bada? The OS is going nowhere, it has no real presence in the market, and Samsung could easily slit its throat anytime now due to lack of performance when compared to its competition. Bada is basically a sinking ship, if Symbian developers are wise, they shouldn't jump from one sinking ship to the other, Android, iOS, and Windows Phone 7 are out there.

Android Now The Number One OS In The US

Android Now The Number One OS In The US

Despite all the fragmentation, Android is racing ahead of the competitions like a donkey on wheels smoking a pipe. Android is now the number one smartphone platform in the US, and right now, there is nothing the competition can do about it.

In the year 2010, Android only accounted for 7% of the smartphone market in the US, BlackBerry sat on 42%, so how the hell did RIM managed to let the BlackBerry lose over 11% market share in just one year? It's like everyone at RIM are dreaming, or just sat on their asses watching Two And A Half Men all day. Not only did Android gain, they are now sitting on 31.2% of the market, which is slightly higher than BlackBerry's 30.4% share, and the way things are going, they should hit 40% before years end.

Nokia Leaks E72 Successor, the Nokia E6

Nokia Leaks E72 Successor, the Nokia E6

The Nokia E71, an iconic Nokia handset for its time, was followed by the Nokia E72, and it looks like Nokia will keep launching BlackBerry-like Symbian smartphones in the foreseeable future. Such a device is the Nokia N6, a smartphone that was just leaked and should be unveiled in the near future.

We don't have all the specifics just yet but the N6 is apparently going to feature a VGA display, a full QWERTY keyboard, an 8-megapixel camera on the back with dual LED flash and, naturally, Symbian running the show under the hood.

Nokia and Microsoft to Make Windows Phone 7 Smartphones?

Nokia and Microsoft to Make Windows Phone 7 Smartphones?

A rumor is swirling again the web saying that Nokia and Microsoft might reach an unexpected partnership that would see Nokia potentially make Windows Phone 7. Nokia is not doing that great in the smartphone department and Microsoft hasn't been selling as many WP7 licenses as it would have liked so joining forces could prove to be a good idea.

Could Nokia actually make WP7 any better than Microsoft's current partners? Could the Finnish carrier juggle Windows Phone 7, Symbian and Maemo? We're definitely interested in Nokia's Capital Markets Day event taking place next Friday.

Nokia to Launch E7 Smartphone in Sweden and Finland Soon

Nokia has a new phone ready for Swedish and Finnish customers, the Nokia E7, a phone that should have been with us in 2010 but has been delayed ever since. The E7 is now available to pre-order in Sweden and Finland so those of you that, for one reason or another, are still waiting for it, will get in the coming months.

The E7 will cost around $800 or $900, in Sweden and Finland, respectively, but that's obviously the unlocked price. The phone, when subsidized by one of the local carriers, should cost a lot less and will be available at some point in February.
