We have previously posted a trick showing how to prevent WM 5.0 and ActiveSync from draining your battery. At the time of writing it was a 6 step process, but now all is made in CAB file for your ease.
The zip archive contains CAB and setup launcher for easy installation plus a short TXT doc. The core file works by setting Cradled value to zero every minute. When nothing is cradled, no synchronization takes place (at least per personal observation).

Transfering contacts or calendar items from one Windows Mobile device to another is and issue that concerns most of the handhelds owners when upgrading to new device. With devices running operating systems prior to WM5 this was an easy job (you just brought up the built-in keyboard SIP and tapped Ctl, and, then, A, to select all contacts and mass-transfer all this via both infrared and Bluetooth to any other device). But the WM5 ha sputted this situation in other direction. It has no option of mass-select any kind of PIM data for transfer unless you use a PIM extender like Pocket Informant.
But there is also a new way to do this i have just read about in Werner Ruotsalainen article for pocketpcmag.com.
It is based on the free application PIM Backup and even if it is your second time using Windows Mobile application you will have no problem dealing with it. Here you can read complete post Menneisyys wrote about this issue and learn how to do it.
Thanks for the great article again Menneisyys.

The long waited Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista has finaly been released. It fixes many bug issues in syncing Windows Mobile based devices and computer with Windows Vista preinstaled. One of the notable improvements is the abbility to synchronize HTML emails through Windows Vista.
The Windows Mobile Device Center enables you to set up new partnerships, synchronize content and manage music, pictures and video with Windows Mobile powered devices (Windows Mobile 2003 or later). The Windows Mobile Device Center combines an efficient business-data synchronization platform with a compelling user experience. The Windows Mobile Device Center helps you to quickly set up new partnerships, synchronize business-critical information such as e-mail, contacts and calendar appointments, easily manage your synchronization settings, and transfer business documents between your device and PC.

If you use Mozilla Thunderbird for your email or Sunbird for Calendar you should note that BirdieSync has been updated to allow you to sync your content to your Windows Mobile device via Activesync / WMDC.
BirdieSync allows synchronization of your contacts, appointments, tasks and mails between Pocket Outlook on your mobile with Thunderbird and Sunbird on your PC. Based on ActiveSync technology and the Windows Mobile Device Center, items are synchronized as soon as your mobile is connected to your PC. Every creation, modification or deletion of a contact, appointment, task or mail on one of the devices are automatically transferred to the other one. So you only have one address book and calendar to manage and you can consult and manage your mails on your mobile. Your information is always up to date.
BirdieSync Features:
* BirdieSync supports synchronization of Pocket Outlook with Thunderbird cards and mails, and Lightning or Sunbird events and tasks.
* You can choose which address books, calendars and mail folders you want to synchronize with your mobile.
* BirdieSync supports the synchronization with WebDAV remote calendars. But WCAP calendars are not yet supported.
* Presently, only mails stored in "Local Folders" can be synchronized. Accounts storing their mails in an independent tree (Inbox, Sent, etc.) cannot be synchronized. Furthermore, mails stored on a remote server cannot be synchronized yet.
* BirdieSync is easy to install and configure, and is well integrated to Thunderbird and Sunbird to make easier its use. Synchronization is automatically done each time you connect your mobile to your PC and you can still use Thunderbird or Sunbird while regularly synchronizing.
BirdieSync has The license fee of 19.95 per user and is available for buy and try here.

vCardManager is recently released free application for Palm OS that creates a new way of handling vCard or widely known as business cards. This app can receive or send from and to any mobile phones or any gadgets that support business card. Business card handling should have been a standard feature of a smartphone like the Treo phones, but unfortunately, Palm chose not to include it in the package. vCardManager fills up this missing feature.
vCardManager Features:
* Send contact information to other mobile phones via vCard. E.g. Nokia, SE, Samsung, etc.
* If the recipients phone has vCard handling capability, they will receive it as BUSINESS CARD RECEIVED. Else, they will receive it as a regular SMS.
* Each phone brand has its own way of handling vCard yet each one of them can be handled by vCardManager. Hence, choosing the right phone before sending a vCard is very important.
* Capable of sending a widely-used business card format or just plain SMS with the contacts information. This is a contingency option if ever the user is unsure of the recipients phone brand. If the vCard is more than 160 characters, it will be automagically parsed to the general vCard format.
* Enabling the vReceive option will make vCardManager as the default business card handler.
* Options of saving vCard as a new contact entry, as SMS, or just discard it.
* It will run on the background without affecting the Treos speed. No hede or vchr calls. Set-and-forget after activation. Once set, no user interaction is needed. This app can survive crashes and resets. vReceive will still remain active all the time. The only way to stop it is to press the Disable button.
* 5-way nav support.
* Built-in CallerID engine. See the name of the business card sender. Unlike in Nokia, they dont know who sent the business card. :p
* Enable/disable sound alert.
* Supports Treo 600, Treo 650, Treo 680 and Treo 700p
vCardManager is available for free download at Freeware Palm site.

Palm has unveiled new way for mobile backup your Treo device over the air on their mobile web portal. Palm Backup Beta is supposed to automatically save a copy of your Treo's data to a secure server every day, from anywhere you have wireless data coverage. The appearance of this service is sudden but not entirely unexpected, given the recent amount of chatter amongst the Palm OS user community predicting a strong push by Palm into wireless service-related offerings.
Names, numbers, appointments and to-do's, even bookmarks and speed dials. It's invaluable information. That's why we created the Palm backup (beta). It automatically saves a copy of your data to a secure server every day, from anywhere you have wireless data coverage. Palm backup is the easiest way to protect your essential informationand get it back again.
Palm Backup Beta service currently supports backups from Contacts, Calendar, Memos, Tasks, Blazer bookmarks, Treo phone app quick dials, and the call log. The good thing about this kind of backup is that no desktop computer is required and automatic backup schedules are available. Palm also offers a brief listing of optimization tips for the service that is certain to expand once more users begin using this utility regularly.
The only disappointment is that Palm states the service will only be free for a limited time. At the moment there is no word on the service's official launch data or its pricing, the only known is that it will support Palm Treo 700p, Treo 680 and Treo 650 on AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless networks and as always, an unlimited data plan is highly recommended.
Palm Backup Beta is accessible here.
