HTC Desire Gingerbread Update Now Being Tested

HTC Desire Gingerbread Update Now Being Tested

It was reported awhile back that the HTC Desire would be getting the Gingerbread update, that was months ago, yet it seems that update is still far off.

Now we are hearing that the carrier, ThreeUK, has begun testing Gingerbread since yesterday, that leads us to believe that the update may not be hitting consumers until sometime in late April or May 2011. There is also a huge problem in regards to the update, the Desire specs doesn't seem to fit too well with Gingerbread, the low RAM on the device may prove to be a problem, but we'll have to wait and see how it goes first.

Android Now Rules The Roost In The UK

Android Now Rules The Roost In The UK

Android is on rapid growth in the UK, and now due to the latest survey done, we can assume that the iPhone is no longer the dominant player in the market.

According to the survey, which was done by Intelligent Environments, more than 28% of UK smartphone owners own an Android phone, 26% goes to Android while 14% is reserved for BlackBerry. This is not surprising, Android has been on a massive growth since it was first released to the world, and the fact that the iPhone is basically a single device, compared to the host of Android phones being released almost every month, this was expected.

Samsung Galaxy S II Coming Soon Says UK Retailer

For all you who are awaiting the Samsung Galaxy S II, you won't have to wait too long, luckily, because a UK retailer stated that the device should be hit the shelves come March 2011. No exact date was given, but with these kinds of leaks, you rarely ever get one.

The retailer, which goes by the name Clove, writes, "we've had word today that the first stock of the Samsung Galaxy S II i9100, both the 16GB & 32GB versions, will be landing mid to late March." March is turning out to be a pretty good month if you want a new phone, two new Windows Phone devices, and quite a few Android devices including the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Made by Samsung and very similar to the Galaxy S family, the Nexus S is the successor of the Nexus One and will be available through Vodafone UK in the very near future although there are no official launch dates and pricing details at this time.

Dell Streak Gets Android Froyo This Week On O2 UK

Dell Streak Gets Android Froyo This Week On O2 UK

The Dell Streak, which launched this year as Dells first Android MID, is set for getting the Android 2.2 update this week, but it will only be available on the O2 network in the UK. The 5-inch display tablet, which launched surprisingly with Android 1.6, has found it very hard to get a solid position in the market, it would have done really well if Dell had any foresight.

Over the Air roll-out is set to begin this week, but be enduring, OTAs are not sent out to every subscriber who owns a Dell Streak on the same day, though, I don't see why, since not many of these were sold so it should be an easy procedure without any hiccups, unless Dell released a bug infested update.

T-Mobile UK Fails to Deliver Froyo for Galaxy S

T-Mobile UK Fails to Deliver Froyo for Galaxy S

T-Mobile UK was certain it would be able to offer Android 2.2 Froyo to its Samsung Galaxy S subscribers but it looks like this particular handset is still part of the 17% of Android smartphones that aren't yet going to Android 2.x.

T-Mobile UK intended to roll out the Froyo update already but it failed miserably at doing so, despite having announced its intentions a few days ago. According to the T-Mobile folks, Samsung can't offer any over-the-air updates for the Galaxy S and the updating the smartphone via Samsung's KIES is not possible either, at least not yet.

Palm Pre 2 Knocked Back By UK Carriers

Palm Pre 2 Knocked Back By UK Carriers The Palm Pre 2, successor to the original Pre on Sprint, and Palm Pre Plus on Verizon, has been knocked back by a large variety of UK carriers. Orange, Three, Vodafone, and O2 have all stated that they do not wish to have the Palm Pre 2 in their catalogue, and do not wish to sell it with a contract. So, it would seem that the only way to grab this baby in the UK would be to buy an unlocked, out of contract phone. Though this is unfortunate, This is not a surprise, as the Pre was a bit of a flump originally, and with similar hardware, UK carriers would probably be better off without the device.

Are you dissapointed? People in the US need not worry, as they already have a confirmed Verizon carrier, and Canada seems to have Rogers. However, not everyone wants to shell out large amounts of money for an unlocked phone, and then on top of that have to buy a plan that suits their needs. Still, you can buy unlocked Pre 2's direct from HP, and at least that helps a bit.
