The Droid launched last Friday and we can already say it had a very successful first weekend. Motorola and Verizon managed to sell 100,000 Droid in the opening weekend and analysts already predict that the phone will have a bright future.

Sure the Droid's first weekend can't be compared to the way the iPhone 3GS sold in its opening weekend but Motorola has a winner on its hands. Analysts predict that Motorola will sell 1 million Android phones in the last quarter of the year and that number includes both the Droid and the CLIQ.

Verizon is getting really serious about its business. With a hot phone like the Motorola Droid coming out tomorrow and with the BlackBerry Strom 2 available in Buy One Get One promotions the carrier wants to make sure that its offers won't be exploited in the near future.

Motorola's Droid is not the only Android smartphone coming from Verizon Wireless this year. In fact, Big Red has a cheaper Android phone scheduled for you. The Droid Eris made by HTC will be available on the same day the Droid will be sold, November 6.

This isn't the first time we're discussing the whole Palm Pre from Verizon thing. And it's been a pretty bumpy ride. We've heard how Verizon doesn't want the Pre anymore and then we heard how everything was back on track and Big Red was definitely interested in the Pre.
