Found in:Skype, voice, WiFi, Talk Skype from Your Phone

That’s right, Skype is expanding their horizon. We have been using this cool app for years for talking free of charge with friends and family. Skype have been developing more and more tools to ease itself into our communication based life and we can’t say we hate it.

It’s no surprise AT&T and other carriers are thinking, according to rumors, about developing a similar VoIP product to compete against Skype and offer it to their cell phone plans subscribers. In the mean time Skype beta for smart(er) phones is out and you can download it here.

Dec 17 Free Web Voice Messaging System via Skype by ORB
Found in:Mobile News, voice, Free Web Voice Messaging System via Skype by ORB

While we are talking about Skype and Skype voicemails, there is a (free) and way more convenient and powerful way to use Skype as you voicemail system; I've posted about back in August already. All you need is Orb (which I'm a huge fan of) and Orb's V4S plug-in. However, Orb has updated V4S again with another cool feature: send voice messages to any E-Mail or Skype contact!Orb Networks yesterday announced a new version of V4S, the world's first software for free Web voice messaging, enabling users to send voice messages to any email or Skype contact.

From any Web browser (or directly form the Skype interface), V4S users can now easily create and send voice messages for free to all their friends, wherever they are. V4S voice messages can be played back from any device with a streaming audio player, including mobile phones and PDAs.

"Voice messaging fills the gap between real-time voice conversations and text-based messaging solutions," said Ian McCarthy, vice president of product marketing at Orb Networks, the creators of V4S. "Sometimes you just want to send someone a message in your own voice." McCarthyalso said "Orb continues to help consumers get the most out of their digital and broadband investments," .

Thanks to E-Mail and SMS alerts, users of V4S get their friends' voice messages delivered to them right away, wherever they are.V4S is the latest addition to the Orb platform, which gives users access from everywhere to their television, music, photos, and other digital content. To use Orb and Skype together with V4S you need a "always connected" PC an free Orb account, the Orb software, running on your always on PC, a Skype account , the latest Skype client software running on your always on PC as well and the V4S plug-in for Orb and Skype.

Nov 29 VITO Voice2Go for Pocket PC Overview
Found in:Software, voice, VITO Voice2Go for Pocket PC Overview

VITO Voice2Go is a Pocket PC program that allows managing your Pocket PC with your own voice. With VITO Voice2Go everything can be done by just telling the Pocket PC what you want - in your own language, in the way you like: # Starting and quitting applications # Calling your contacts and hanging up the phone # Modifying system settings # Pressing any buttons with your voice and macro recording Voice2Go is a voice dialing solution for your Pocket PC. Generally, Pocket PCs miss this capability; Voice2Go bridges the gap. Assign voice commands to your contacts' names and dial their numbers without touching to anything.
You are able to hear the name of the person that is calling you. Along with the ringtone, Voice2Go will loudly pronounce a command you've recorded for that person and only then will ring the tone.

After you hear who's calling, you have just to say a Magic Word for answering the phone (or for sending a busy tone if you're not in the mood today to talk to anyone except your Pocket PC)!

Voice2Go enables you to launch any programs you have installed on your Pocket PC just by pronouncing their names or commands that you have recorded.

Voice2Go isn't tied to any language or accent. You and only you record your own commands - the way you want them to be.

Say a Magic Word, and Voice2Go will turn itself on and will listen for the next your command - to launch an application, call a contact or anything else you have to order to your Pocket PC. Say a Magic Word, then say a command - and it's done!

Magic Word mode requires more power from your Pocket PC because it keeps listening to what you say all the time, so remember to keep it charged.

Nov 13 Use Your BlueTooth Headset With Voice Command On A JasJar
Found in:Tips, voice, Bluetooth, Use Your BlueTooth Headset With Voice Command On A JasJar

The i-Mate JasJar comes with a program for voice dialing called Voice Speed Dial, or SDDialer.exe. It works like your typical voice dialing feature commonly found on phones. You have to create a voice tag for everyone you want to dial. Voice Command from Microsoft, however, leverages the power of the Windows Mobile OS. It reads all of your contacts and when you say "Call Jeff Smith on mobile" it recognizes "Call" as a command to dial a number from contacts, it will match your saying "Jeff Smith" to the appropriate contact and will then dial the number you have in the mobile field. It is pretty accurate. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with bluetooth headsets. You have to speak into the Pocket PC mic for it to work and can then use the headset to handle the rest of the call.

By hacking the registry, you can swap out the sddialer.exe with the voicecmd.exe app. This allows you to press the button on the headset, you hear Voice Command respond with the beep, give your command, it will repeat the command through the headset if so configured then wait for you to say "Correct" or "Cancel" and then dial. The steps are:

• Install Voice Command to the default location.
• Fire up a registry editor
• Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\?VoiceCommand
• Modify the string marked "path" from the default \Windows\SDDialer.exe to \Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCMD.exe

This JasJar hack and lots of other extremely useful hacks and tips are available at the XDA-Developers.com Universal Registry page. Remember, you are on your own with registry hacks. Done improperly, you can render your device unusable requiring a hard reset, so proceed at your own risk. Wink
