These day there are many releases of Windows Mobile powered Smartphones, that sometimes new announcements evade out attention. Here is a Smartphone, announced lately, that by its nature is offering nothing new ( as you know there are plenty of Windows Mobile phones with built-in Wi-Fi), but it has SIP based voice over IP software preinstalled and it claims to be the first SIP-based Windows Mobile powered dual mode phone.
Paragon Wireless, the leading dual-mode (Cellular/VoWLAN) technology provider to global wireless OEMs, cellular design houses, ISP operators, IP-PBX vendors, and VoIP operators alike, announced the launch of the worlds first SIP-based Windows mobile dual-mode handset at the VON show in Boston.
Paragon's hipi-2200 is the next generation in integrated dual-mode handsets. Utilizing Paragon Wireless proven VoWLAN / GSM dual-mode voice technology, the hipi-2200 adds the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system to further expand the usability and functionality of this extremely versatile handset. With the built in support for email, web browsing, the MP3/MP4 player and the camcorder/recorder on a Windows Mobile platform, users can access the Internet, listen to music and take and review pictures all from one easily carried handset, that also serves as their mobile phone. The 1100mAh Li-ion battery offers users up to 4 hours of talk time or 100 hours of standby time, with both GSM and WiFi radios simultaneously active, making the hipi-2200 the only handset users need to carry.
The hipi-2200s feature-set takes the landscape of handset technology as we know it today, while focusing on high performance and functionality, including:
* OS: Windows Mobile 5.0;
* Support for quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and Class-10 GPRS;
* Support for 802.11g WLAN and comprehensive SIP-based VoIP functionality over WLAN;
* Greater than 4 hour talk time, 3-4 hours for VoIP call and 6-7 hours for GSM;
* Up to 100 hour standby time with both GSM and WLAN radios active;
* Seamless WLAN AP-to-AP roaming in both active talking mode and idle mode;
* Seamless handover between GSM and VoIP;
* Always-on WLAN and support for seamless handover between WLAN and GPRS for data applications such as email and internet browsing;
* Comprehensive security support such as VPN, VoIP over VPN, 802.1x, WPA and WEP;
- For example the hipi-2200 supports logging on
to a corporate internal IP-PBX from a hotspot
or home over VPN, essentially allowing users to
take their company phone with them on the
road with the same call features and number;
* Applications including: Internet, MSN, Email, Web
Browsers, and more;
* Full Active Syncing Capabilities with calendar, contacts, email and other related programs;
* Integrated Windows Media Player.
Paragon Wireless will have the hipi-2200, as well as other members of the hipi family of products available for demonstration at the VON Conference at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Booth #707 from September 12-14, 2006. The new service, expected to be officially released at the end of June 2006, is based on Pangeans insta-REACT! product and leverages both VoIP and WiFi technologies to provide instant communications within a campus network. With Y-Talk, PDA's running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 or Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 become "Walkie-Talkie" like devices with a push to talk feature via a SIP-based software application.
The new service will provide enterprises with a need for instant communications such as hospitals, retailers and warehouses, a way of reaching employees and colleagues even if they're "on the go". Y-Talk will
offer a unique solution for enterprises looking to maintain contacts within groups of employees and leverage
their existing Wireless LAN network for in-building communications. With the Push to Talk button,
employees can instantly communicate with team members and groups of colleagues.
Pangean also unveiled a partnership with Symbol to integrate Y-Talk on Symbol's MC50 and MC70 Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDA) and is expecting to receive certification from Symbol.
