End-to-end wireless printing from Bluetooth(R), Blackberry(TM) & Symbian(TM) smart phone devices
Zaventem (Belgium), November 2005 - Pentax Technologies announced today that its PocketJet(R) 3 and 3Plus printers now provide on-board (optional) Bluetooth(R) connectivity, offering a complete wireless printing solution. The 'top of the line' 200/300-dpi high quality, ultra-portable, ultra-rugged printer retains the same compact size, weight, functionality and USB / IrDA connectivity that has made the PocketJet series a must for today's mobile users.
Mobile printing without wires and cables
With embedded Bluetooth technology, the PocketJet 3 and 3Plus can easily communicate with Bluetooth-enabled computers, mobile phones, PDA's, Blackberry(TM) devices and other hosts. Now, users on the move are free to print without the need to carry and connect cables.
Martin Mogendorff, General Manager of Pentax Technologies Europe, commented: "This new development for the PocketJet 3 is great news for wireless mobile users. It allows them to easily print their documents - reports, sales quotations, invoices - on the road from their mobile phones, handheld devices or laptops, without having to bother with messy cables or complex network configurations."
Email printing from Blackberry(TM) devices
Pentax Technologies also announced that the PocketJet 3 can now print from Blackberry devices, Symbian(TM)-based smart phones and Windows-mobile based systems. Mobile users can print emails and attachments, corporate groupware messages, faxes, and internet files using Content Beamer software from ThinPrint(R) (http://www.thinprint.com). Content Beamer lets users with Bluetooth-capable Blackberry and Symbian smart phone devices print to the PocketJet 3 / 3Plus printers. All print functions are uniformly and intuitively selectable from the 'print' command integrated into the Blackberry and Symbian smart phone menus.
Pentax also provides drivers for systems such as Linux, Windows CE, Mac, Palm, PocketPC and so on, where most Palm and PocketPC support requires third party software.
"With the huge increase in sophisticated mobile, wireless devices, PocketJet 3 is keeping ahead of demand for on-the-go mobile printing," Mr. Mogendorff stated. "Adding Bluetooth, Blackberry, and smart phone connectivity turns the Pentax Pocket 3 into a true end-to-end wireless printing solution for mobile users."
About Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for connecting devices. It uses radio frequencies to transmit information over distances of 33 feet (10 meters) or less, to 330 feet (100m). The PocketJet 3 is a Class 1 device capable of transmissions of up to 100m. By embedding a Bluetooth chip and receiver into products, cables that would normally carry the signal can be eliminated.
About Blackberry
Blackberry is the leading wireless email solution that allows users to stay connected without dialing in. The Blackberry device is widely used for wireless email functionality.
