Motorola XOOM Heading To Sprint

Motorola XOOM Heading To Sprint

The Motorola XOOM is not doing quite well in market so far, the device is struggling to compete with the iPad 2 so it would be interesting to see if Sprint can help its prospects.

The XOOM will be hitting Sprint in two forms, a version with WiMAX 4G and the other with support for only Wi-Fi. Currently, no word has been forthcoming regarding the price for the Motorola XOOM on Sprint, but we expect the price to me very similar to that of the version on other networks in the U.S. right now.

Verizon Top Sprint In 4G Speed Test

Verizon Top Sprint In 4G Speed Test

Things are not going well for Sprint these days, AT&T buying up T-Mobile which will further push them back, and the heat emulating from Verizon and Apple iPhone partnership.

If that is not enough, now Sprint will have to contend with being the slowest 4G network in America, after 1000 speed tests were done on Verizon LTE network. All 1,000 tests were done in New York City, the devices used was the Verizon HTC Thunderbolt, and the Sprint HTC EVO 4G, both powerful handsets and the best on offer from both networks. If you look at the charts, you will realize how significantly faster Verizon 4G LTE network is, but one could argue that such is the case because not many subscribers are using Verizon 4G compared to Sprint.

ITU Says LTE and WiMAX Can Be Called 4G Technologies

ITU Says LTE and WiMAX Can Be Called 4G Technologies

Sprint and Verizon started calling their new WiMAX and LTE networks, respectively, 4G and soon after T-Mobile decided to use the same lingo when talking about its newly launched 21Mbps HSPA+ network. Soon everyone was talking 4G connectivity in the USA and not only but the problem was that WiMAX 2 and LTE-Advanced are the actual, real 4G communication technologies.

That's all according to the ITU, the International Telecommunication Union, or at least that's what they were telling us up to a certain point. It now looks like the ITU conceded a small victory to U.S. and international carriers deploying their WiMAX and LTE upgrades and acknowledged the fact that these two connectivity options can be referred to as 4G technologies.

Verizon LTE Smartphones Coming Only in Early 2011?

Verizon LTE Smartphones Coming Only in Early 2011?

Verizon is just about to match Sprint when it comes to 4G support, although technically speaking neither Verizon's upcoming LTE nor Sprint's WiMAX network are real 4G networks. The carrier will start deploying LTE in 38 markets by the end of the year and complete the LTE rollout in the following years.

But the first LTE handsets from Big Red are only expected to hit stores at some point in 2011 so don't get your hopes up when it comes to buying one such device by Christmas.

NTT DoCoMo LTE Network Launching Out With 28 Handsets

NTT DoCoMo LTE Network Launching Out With 28 Handsets

NTT DoCoMo, the largest damn network in Japan, is going all out when they kick off LTE next month. The network plans to launch LTE (Long Term Evolution) with a massive 28 phones, all which are able to take advantage of the new LTE network one way or the other, WiMAX just got kicked in the nuts.

Symbian lovers would be glad to know that 11 of the 28 devices are based on Symbian, no word which version of Symbian, but I guess that doesn't really matter much when 11 Symbian based handsets are stepping out on the same day come December 24th. The line up includes 11 waterproof phones, 10 with touchscreens, 3 of which can function as Wi-Fi hotspots, 9 with the capability to shoot HD video, and 5 with the rare option of shooting 1080p full HD video, flipping awesome!

T-Mobile On False 4G Advertising Campaign (video)

T-Mobile On False 4G Advertising Campaign (video)

4G this 4G that, I am tired of seeing mobile networks calling their crap 4G when it isn't, someone need to be sued for misleading advertising. First off, Sprint's WiMAX 4G is not 4G, the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) are the ones who define what 4G is and from what I can tell, WiMAX, HSPA+ and LTE are not 4G, 4G will be up on us when WiMAX 2 and LTE Advance comes around.

So here we have T-Mobile branding their HSPA+ network as 4G, this is as misleading as Pamela Anderson's fake tits and it needs to be stopped, if not, then some organization needs to educate unsuspected consumers on what 4G actually is so they won't fall for this kind of foolishness. Anyway, check out the advertisement video after the break, they took some shots at AT&T, it is amusing.

HTC DROID Incredible HD Launching November 23rd?

HTC DROID Incredible HD Launching November 23rd?

Every new phone these days with HD output are sporting HD at the end of their names, I am now finding it really annoying and stupid, maybe they should put "None HD" at the end of phones that doesn't support it.

What we have here is some information about the HTC DROID Incredible HD, it looks quite a lot like the EVO 4G and probably even better with the huge and nice 4.3 inch display with LTE built in, yes you read correctly, this sex monster might just be one of the first LTE handsets so I hope by then Verizon gets its LTE stuff out the door.

Video: HTC EVO 4G Unboxed

Video: HTC EVO 4G Unboxed

One of the top devices coming out in a few weeks is the HTC EVO 4G from Sprint, it's one of the few WiMAX supported smartphones to be release in the US and the first that is based on the Google Android platform. The Slashgear boys got their hands on a copy and did an unboxing video for everyone, all i can say is, this phone is looking mighty fine.

If you were living under a rock for months now, then you probably wouldn't know that the HTC EVO 4G is a killer device, this bad boy is packing Android 2.1 Eclair, 4.3" touch display, 8MP camera with dual-led flash, EVO Rev.A, WiMAX, 720p video recording and a HDMI port. So right there you got the more important bits on the spec sheet, did I mention there will be a 1GHz snapdragon processor at the helm of the EVO 4G? Yes there will be. Anyway, enjoy the pictures and videos after the jump, you gonna love this handset.

HTC EVO 4G Coming To Sprint June 6th

HTC EVO 4G Coming To Sprint June 6th

The HTC EVO 4G handset release date is near, this powerful handset bound for Sprint's WiMAX network is finally dated and priced and no doubt everyone waiting will be excited. The date set is on June 4th, that's not too far away and the price for the EVO 4G on contract is a neat $199 and if you want it without a contract, be ready to fork out $450 smithereens before all discounts.

So the good news aside, time for some bad news eh. All customers will be required to pay a $10 mandatory per month "Premium Data add-on" on top of their plan, the good thing about this is that i carries no data cap for either WiMAX or 3G connections so watching videos non stop will be the norm soon enough over Sprint's network, they better have the backbone to handle all this data.

Clearwire Committed to WiMAX At Least Until 2012

Clearwire Committed to WiMAX At Least Until 2012

We're very interested in how the first 4G handsets are going to perform and we already have one hot Android candidate that will be able to answer to that question soon. I am talking about the HTC EVO 4G which will be rocking at WiMAX speeds thanks to Sprint's and Clearwire's WiMAX networks.

But today we're not going to talk about the hot Android device coming from Sprint stores soon but about Sprint's partner, Clearwire. It looks like the company has revealed a potential move from WiMAX to LTE if the need arises. Clearwire seems committed to WiMAX for now but, if the mobile market will ask for it, it might just switch to LTE but no sooner than 2012.
