Jan 24 HTC Prophet aka O2 Xda neo announced by O2 Germany

Today, O2 Germany announced the launch of its latest Windows Mobile Pocket PC, the O2 Xda neo. Since the Xda neo is based on the HTC Prophet we already know mostly everything but O2 Germany confirmed that the neo will includes W-LAN as well as the 2 megapixel camera and is running Windows Mobile 5.0.

"Also a new Smartphone, the Xda neo, presents O2 for the first time on the CeBIT. It possesses a high performance camera with a dissolution of 2 megapixels and supports Wireless LAN. The Xda neo uses the new Windows mobile 5,0. The equipment will come still in the spring on the market. O2 addresses itself with the new equipment both at private and to business customers." is said in 02' press release today


There are thoughts that the Xda neo will be released with the AKU 2.0 which will support - as highlights - Bluetooth stereo streaming via A2DP and Microsoft's own push E-Mail solution based on Exchange 2003.

O2 Germany also announced, that he will fully support Microsoft's Exchange 2003 push solution and they will preview this solution during CeBIT 2006. E-Mail push should be available for all O2 customers with Windows Mobile 5.0 devices which means O2 should release ROM updates for their current Xda mini S (HTC Wizard) and Xda phone (HTC Tornado) which has to include AKU 2.

This camera patch contains improvements to quality of picture taken by built-in camera and provides fixes to camera software that sometimes causes device to hang when it is used in low light intensity environment.

You may consider upgrading your device if you encounter the issues above.

This patch applies to devices with the following system software:

or
• ROM: 20060123B1WWE

Do not apply this patch if you are using a Chinese version of Xda Atom. Do not apply this patch if you have the following

• ROM: 20051129B2

You can check the core software versions running on your device by going Start > Settings > System > System Info.

Mar 14 O2 Germany about to release HTC Elf as O2 Xda nova

After the announce of HTC Herald release as O2 Xda terra, O2 has announced another Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone and it will be the O2 Xda nova (HTC Elf).

Like the O2 Xda terra, also the Xda nova is powered by Microsoft's new Windows Mobile 6 and the Xda nova features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as Bluetooth 2.0 and W-LAN b/g and is O2's new entry-level Windows Mobile device for consumers. Powered by a TI OMAP CPU at 200 MHz, the Elf is sporting 128 MB ROM and 64 MB RAM which can be extended with microSD memory cards. The 2.8" screen supports up to 65k colors and the digital camera supports 2 megapixel.

The O2 Xda nova will be released in June and together with a 24 month contract, it will be available for 100 Euro. A price without subscription wasn't given yet.

Mar 14 O2 Germany about to release HTC Herald as O2 Xda terra

O2 Germany has announced the launch of its own version of the HTC Herald which will be released as O2 Xda terra.

While the HTC Herald is in the market for some time already, O2 is going to launch the Xda terra with Windows Mobile 6! Now that's a word and I wonder what the other carriers, which have the Herald in program already, are going to do now. All the other features are staying the same like featuring a semi slide-out QWERTZ (keep in mind it's the German version) keyboard, supporting quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE (even if O2 Germany isn't supporting EDGE in its own network). as well as the Xda terra is sporting a 2 megapixel camera on the back.

O2 Xda terra is meant to replace the Xda mini S (HTC Wizard) and will be available from May.
