Published by Chris in:palm, treo, smartphone, Pocket PC, Palm Treo 800w Uncovered

Are you ready for the next Palm? According to this picture they have already finished the Treo 800w prototype. According to unconfirmed rumors it’s expected to run Windows Mobile 6.1. Inside we’ll have a 400Mhz processor accompanied by 128MB of RAM and 256 MB of flash memory. In order to keep up with the latest smartphone releases like the HTC Touch Diamond, the BlackBerry Bold or the undisclosed yet 3G iPhone, the guys at Palm were forced I guess, to finally come up with 3G and WiFi support

May 15 What Do You Think? A Virtual Keyboard?
Published by Chris in:keyboard, software, smartphone, windows mobile, What Do You Think? A Virtual Keyboard?

Looking at the picture I can’t help but wonder if that would actually be useful to me. What I mean is that I am so used to a QWERTY keyboard that I’d have a hard time adjusting to any other kind. However it seems a cool idea and it might be just the next thing for certain mobile applications. Imagine switching back and forth from portrait to landscape. Wouldn’t a vertical keyboard suit your needs? Sure it might slow you down at first but once you get used to it, it will be just another clever idea.

May 15 GooSync in Beta Tests
Published by Chris in:software, Google, GooSync in Beta Tests

GooSync with Google is in beta test apparently. Unfortunately it’s a closed beta so we’ll have to wait and see the results. What GooSync does is simple. It syncs your Google contacts with your phone’s contacts.

The beta will run for about a month and we’ll see what the conclusions are. GooSync was the first online service to offer synchronization for your phone with Google Calendar. This doesn’t seem that simple to achieve with Gmail too, although you’d assume Google thought of everything when they developed this simple mailing platform. Google’s Gmail has a contacts system that gathers all the information on all your contacts whether you input it manually or not.

May 15 Live Search Updated
Published by Chris in:windows mobile, freeware, software, live search, Live Search Updated

Microsoft launched today new features to Live Search for all those devices running on Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1.

With Live Search you can google, if you mind my joke, anything you could be interested in while on the move. Search for maps, driving directions, events, people, you name it. If you are a good English speaker, you can simply state what you are looking for instead of typing it. If you are still interested in weather, you can get that searched too, but this new version of Live Search also goes deeper intop user generated PC contente and web search

May 14 Verizon Wireless to Embrace Linux OS
Published by Chris in:Verizon, Linux, smartphone, Verizon Wireless to Embrace Linux OS

We keep talking about Windows Mobile and Symbian, about Android or Mac OS, so imagine my not-quite-so-big surprise when I heard Verizon Wireless is thinking outside the box. They are thinking about changing their preferred OS. They have just joined Limo Foundation which, and I quote, is an industry consortium dedicated to creating the first truly open, hardware-independent, Linux-based operating system for mobile devices end quote.

May 14 iPhone Passes Barcode Scan
Published by Chris in:iphone, Apple, , iPhone Passes Barcode Scan

How big is your wallet? I am not asking if you keep a lot of cash or if you have a $100,000+/year salary? I am referring to anything else that’s in there and you’d like to remove but can’t. All those coupons and memberships, discounts and incredible saves, all those pieces of paper or plastic with your name on them and a barcode to be scanned with every purchase or attendance.

HTC Touch Diamond is not quite available yet is it? In the USA, the FCC is going through its intestines checking out every bit and piece. But its virtual keyboard was already hacked and it’s available for any of you. If you have a cool touch smartphone then maybe you will want to try it out.

May 14 Steve Jobs and rumors surronding iPhone at WWDC
Published by Chris in:Apple, Events, iPhone, Steve Jobs and rumors surronding iPhone at WWDC

Steve Jobs is coming to Apple's WorldWide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9th. That is confirmed. It would have been at least odd not to see him deliver one of those memorable keynotes. This time he will be talking about the second generation iPhone, he will deliver news about Mac OS X and SDK.

Steve’s Job is to start his keynote presentation at 10AM on Monday, June 9th in San Francisco. I would assume most of his performance will be structured around the iPhone 2.0.
