Feb 01 ARM Processor & Physical IP Deliver 750 MHz ARM11 Implementation
Published by Vesselin Nerdeff in:Hardware, ARM Processor & Physical IP Deliver 750 MHz ARM11 Implementation

Combination of ARM1176JZF-S processor, plus ARM Artisan Advantage libraries and memories achieves more than 750 MHz performance for next-generation digital home products and high-end consumer devices. ARM today unveiled a groundbreaking high performance implementation of the ARM1176JZF-S processor, enhanced with the ARM Artisan Advantage cell library and memories, which achieves a frequency of more than 750 MHz in a high-performance 90nm foundry process while occupying only 2.4 mm2 of silicon area. This represents a significant performance increase through a combination of collaborative design, advanced physical IP and process technology. The optimized implementation delivers an industry-leading performance of more than 920 Dhrystone MIPS for existing applications and operating systems without the need for expensive software re-design or re-compilation.

"The industry leading combination of the ARM processor business and the Physical IP business acquired from Artisan a year ago is delivering technically as well as commercially," said Mike Inglis EVP Marketing and Business Development. "Our combined engineering teams have worked together to create a best-in-class 90nm design for semiconductor Partners serving the high volume digital consumer market."

The high-performance design is a fully routed, reference layout of the ARM1176JZF-S processor including 16KB instruction cache, 16KB data cache, 4x high-performance AMBA 3 AXI interconnect interfaces to speed instruction and data access, and a vectorized floating-point unit (VFP). Based on the award winning ARM11 family, the ARM1176JZF-S processor has been widely adopted for next generation consumer applications due to its high-end performance, energy efficiency and rich feature set.

The ARM Advantage family of cell libraries and memories delivers high-performance and low-power, and provides an out-of-the-box solution for demanding digital home, entertainment, and other high-end applications. The ARM Advantage family reinforces the powerful synergy between ARM's processor and physical IP products. Combined, these complementary technologies enable ARM to offer the industry's broadest portfolio of system-on-chip (SoC) IP, and deliver performance and power optimized processor implementations for deep sub-micron silicon design.

"The new 750 MHz implementation of the ARM1176JZF-S processor illustrates the benefits of combining a complete range of ARM technology, in terms of performance, compatibility, lower risk and time-to-market," said John Cornish, VP Marketing, Processors Division, ARM. "The ARM Advantage library and memories combined with the ARM1176JZF-S processor highlights our commitment to providing leading-edge solutions for applications which need a higher level of performance with full software compatibility. This is the latest of several targeted implementations that combine our industry-leading processor and physical IP, to demonstrate high performance in a low cost and power footprint."

The ARM1176JZF-S synthesizable processor is targeted at consumer and wireless devices such as digital TVs, set-top-boxes, games consoles, and mobile phones. The processor incorporates ARM Jazelle technology for Java acceleration, ARM TrustZone technology, a key enabling technology, targeted specifically at securing consumer products running open Operating Systems (OS), such as Symbian OS, Linux and Windows CE, and a Vector Floating-Point (VFP) coprocessor to provide powerful acceleration for embedded 3D graphics.
Availability

The high speed ARM1176JZF-S processor implementation with 16K Instruction and Data caches will run at more than 750MHz, with a die size of only 2.4mm2 and less than 500mW of power including caches. The ARM1176JZF-S processor, and the Advantage cell library and memories for the TSMC 90GT process, are available now. For further information contact your local ARM office or visit www.arm.com

ARM designs the technology that lies at the heart of advanced digital products, from wireless, networking and consumer entertainment solutions to imaging, automotive, security and storage devices. Oct 13 Arvale II: Ocean of Time released and reviewed
Published by root in:Games, Arvale II: Ocean of Time released and reviewed

Arvale II promises an expansive RPG experience complete with time travel, combat galore, and all the humor you've come to expect from a PDAMill game. It certainly delivers, but is more of the same good enough?
The graphics are just as good as the first time. Every corridor is rife with details, and little animated touches throughout the landscape breathe life into the world of Arvale. Once again the NPC portraits during conversations exude a colorful anime style, and they appear to be even more detailed than before. We're treated to the same overhead perspective as part one, and for a low resolution portable game that's just fine with me. The combat is still the highlight of the graphical features, with dazzling spells and wonderfully animated characters to help you visualize the foray. I was slightly disappointed in that there didn't seem to be too much of an upgrade in the graphics engine from part one, but a good thing often doesn't need to be changed.
This game is available for order here !

Jan 02 AskMeNow With Interactive Voice Response Service
Published by Vesselin Nerdeff in:Mobile News, AskMeNow With Interactive Voice Response Service

AskMeNow, a company that delivers text-message answers to questions on any topic Thursday will officially launch an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology into its service as a step closer to integrating voice recognitioncapabilities early in 2006. The IVR system will allow customers to register for the AskMeNow service from their cell phone or mobile device. It also will speed information to users such as automated information for flight times, restaurants and hotels, directions, weather, stock quotes, sports and news.

The basic AskMeNow feature is free. The extended service is 49 cents per call. About 55 percent of the service change belongs to AskMeNow and the remainder to the telecommunications carrier, said Darryl Cohen, chief executive officer at AskMeNow, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ocean West Holding Corp.

"Simple questions are answered from a few to 30 seconds, whereas more complicated questions may take several minutes," he said. "We're developing new IVR applications for many of the latest phones from the Palm Treo to the Motorola Razor, and expect them to be ready between 30 and 75 days."

Advertising also brings in revenue for AskMeNow. Each time a question is text messaged, the answer is returned with an advertisement that relates to either a previous asked question, geographic location or preference indicated when the user initiated the service. The information is delivered with help from hundreds of service representatives at the company's facility in Manila, along with automated software tools.

AskMeNow has received the most interest from those trialing the IVR system in the United States, about 80 percent. Most are in the eastern United States. About 30,000 have signed up to use the service, Cohen said.

AskMeNow is in the process of purchasing voice recognition software and plans to incorporate search technology in the first quarter to increase accuracy rate and speed information to users.

The voice recognition technology also is expected to make the system more predictive. "The problem is when people are speaking on a cell phone there is a lot of background noise," Cohen said. "If we can build some stability into the platform, we think that we can capture most phrases people say, so the auto templates will eliminate the need for the human element as a backup."
