Samsung Windows Phone 7 Handset Concept Looks like the Samsung i8910 HD

Microsoft MIX10 brought us three Windows Phone 7 handsets too. They were made by Asus, LG and Samsung, While we've already seen the LG Panther a couple of weeks ago and while the Asus concept phone might just be a simple prototype, the Samsung handset shown running Windows Phone 7 definitely looks good.

It looks so good in fact that is similar to the Samsung i8910 HD. Are we to assume that the i8910 HD has been upgraded to Windows Phone 7? Why should it receive special treatment when we know for a fact that the HTC HD2 will not get Windows Phone 7 since it doesn't measure up to Redmond new mobile standards.

Ok so we've heard that the only place you can buy Windows Phone 7 applications is the official Marketplace but it looks like Microsoft has more limitations in place for the upcoming OS which tend to cloud it's easily achieve coolness.

Like Apple, it looks like Microsoft will not support multitasking, at least for now. Sure multitasking drains battery life and can clog the processor thus destroying our whole smartphone performance but some sort of multitasking is definitely required. And let's not forget that Microsoft has raised the bar when it comes to Windows Phone 7 hardware specifications particularly in order to improve the performance of future handsets running its OS.

So Microsoft MIX has confirmed one thing we feared the most, the HTC HD2 will not be upgradeable to Windows Phone 7. But as I said earlier, we count on HTC to make an HD2 successor worthy of our attention.

And it looks like HTC is working on exactly that, at least if recent rumors are to be believed. So don't get to excited folks, at least not until we see something official from HTC and its partners in the mobile business.

We've waited and waited for Microsoft's MIX conference to arrive and we can now tell you officially that Redmond will not support Windows Phone 7 upgrades for the HTC HD2. The decision is final and it might not be very well received by HTC HD2 fans out there.

One of the main reasons the HTC HD2 can't handle Windows Phone 7, at least according to Microsoft, is the fact that it has too many physical buttons.

OpenMobileMaps released for Windows PhonesRobert Ciesnik who develops for Windows Mobile just released great mapping application OpenMobileMaps. It is similar to GoogleMaps but it's relying on OpenStreetMap.org. The application is made to be finger friendly and can show the map on fullscreen. Along with this has support for GPS and GSM triangulation (if no GPS device is present or there is no signal). Map tiles are downloaded and stored on your phone/storage and only new ones are downloaded and this saves your time and money, if you are on other than nolimit data plan.
