As it looks like i-mate are targeting their efforts in launching device which can really compete with the Motorola Q. This new handheld is known as i-mate Jaq and its design looks quite similiar to the moto's one.

i-mate Jaq will Feature:

There is IrDA and Bluetooth 1.2, but no WiFi, and the 1.3 megapixel camera is a bit old school thing these days, but with that QWERTY action this just might turn out to be a decent contender from i-mate.

Aug 09 Sony launches mylo personal Pocket Communicator

Sony is launching its first WiFi broadband communication and entertainment device to capitalize on the growth of wireless Internet access.

The new mylo personal communicator is capable of operating in any open 802.11b wireless network. The name refers to "my life online" and has design tips from Sony PSP, functionality from the OQO, usage scenarios from Nokia's 770 and a wee dash dash of inspiration from Ixi's OGO.

According to Sony, the product is designed for people who use instant messaging as a primary form of communication and networking for their social life. The communicator lets consumers use instant messaging, browse the Internet, listen to music, send emails and view photos concurrently.

Sony mylo is small enough for a pocket or purse, the slim, oblong-shaped device features a 2.4 inch color LCD with a slide out QWERTY keyboard for quick thumb-typing. The device is available in black or white and comes embedded with popular instant messaging services: the Google Talk instant messaging service, Skype and Yahoo! Messenger. These services are free and the product does not require initial computer setup or a monthly service contract. The communicator also runs an e-mail client, being compatible with services such as Yahoo! Mail and the Gmail web mail service.

The mylo personal communicator comes with 1GB of flash memory, to store data. This includes music, and the device is compatible with MP3, ATRAC and WMA (secure and unsecure) files. The mylo communicator has a built-in speaker for listening to music as well as headsets. It can also play MPEG-4 videos by transferring files via USB cable or with Memory Stick Duo media.

The mylo personal communicator will be available in September for about US$350.
