All of the features previously available in ActiveSync are available in Vista's Windows Mobile Device Center, including synchronization and setting up your partnership. However, most of the user interface has changed in an effort to enhance your ability to easily and intuitively find device-related tasks and improve the overall usability of those tasks.

Microsoft said that only a portion of Windows Mobile Device Center is included in this release of Windows Vista. As to them this primarily includes core device connectivity components, which allows the operating system to recognize that a Windows Mobile-based device has connected and load the appropriate device drivers loaded and services. Included with this is our Windows Mobile Device Center base application that enables some basic functionality, including the ability to browse the contents of your device, use desktop passthrough to sync with Microsoft Exchange, and change some general computer and connection settings.

There is new GPS navigation application for your Pocket PCs which will make tracking your position, speed, course and exporting them on the digital charts. It is called WinGPS Mobile Navigator Lite and one of the coolest thing is that it is free.

WinGPS Mobile Lite Specifications:

* Supports DKW2 charts (converted BSB as well)
* Seamless cartography (all chart being fit together as one large chart)
* Easy zooming and panning
* Plotting of position and track, when an NMEA-0183 compatible GPS is connected
* Course over ground (COG), speed over ground (SOG) and WGS84 coordinates
* You can install one chart set at a time through WinGPS 4L (meaning you can use one chart set at a time)

Windows Mobile software developers Adisasta Software has released version 3 of its WinMobile Zip application. This new versions now supports viewing and extracting of a wide range of archive formats, in addition to standard zip archiving.
