Feb 24 Protect your Pocket PC Phone Edition device from being stolen
Published by Vesselin Nerdeff in:Software, Pocket PC, Protect your Pocket PC Phone Edition device from being stolen

Ever dreamed for the chance of retrieving back your Pocket PC Phone Edition device if its being stolen? Now you can do it with a new application from Carty Studios called Ultimate Theft Alert 2.1.

The software performs a check for your SIM card every time the device is cold-booted and if that SIM wasn't yours, it send an alert SMS to a predefined number specified by you. Its nice idea is a little funny because the thief' unsupposingly is sending you his mobile phone number right from his pocket. Yeah it Feels good !

One more good thing is that Ultimate Theft Alert 2.1 runs completely in a separate thread and doesn't let the thief know that its been running or installed or an SMS is been sent from his number.

The developers are currently established a price of 2% of your device' cost - approximately $15 USD as to them.

Jan 03 PSC Awards BIO-key and Cingular for Wireless Information Sharing
Published by Vesselin Nerdeff in:Mobile News, PSC Awards BIO-key and Cingular for Wireless Information Sharing

Wall, N.J. –January 3, 2006 – BIO-key International Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BKYI), a leader in wireless public safety solutions and finger-based biometric identification, and Cingular Wireless have been awarded a contract valued at more than $270,000 to equip a seven-county consortium of fire, police and EMS agencies in south central Tennessee with its public safety communications software.

This collaborative effort between police, fire, emergency management and communications agencies will give first responders access to mission critical information using BIO-key’s MobileCOP solution in conjunction with Cingular’s nationwide* EDGE wireless data network. It will give public safety officials, regardless of their agency or county jurisdiction the ability to quickly communicate and share information with each other.

The primary focus of this project is to provide homeland security-related services, deter domestic terrorism and promote regional data sharing, according to Lawrence County Director of Emergency Management Joe Baxter. Law enforcement officers in Giles, Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Maury, Perry, and Wayne Counties will soon be able to communicate with each other on the computer network, as well as access their individual department’s record systems, do reports, or even run license tags through their own data terminal in the vehicle.

“We’re very excited about the possibilities with this technology,” Baxter said. “We have a very good group of forward-thinking County Executives who make up the District 8 Homeland Security Council.” The District 8 Homeland Security Council is co-chaired by Lawrence County’s Ametra Bailey and Maury County’s Jim Bailey. The executive committee that carries out the council’s projects is comprised of the EMA directors of the seven counties.

“The need for communication and information interoperability is a well documented homeland security requirement, but, unfortunately, little has been implemented yet nationally. This integrated, cross-agency, cross-county solution for the Tennessee counties by BIO-key and Cingular will give public safety officials a leadership infrastructure capability to access critical information and services they need to protect their communities,” said Michael DePasquale, CEO of BIO-key International.

The consortium will equip 150 vehicles with laptops enabled for MobileCOP and the high-speed Cingular EDGE network, the largest national wireless data network in the United States. Cingular’s EDGE network is available in 13,000 cities and towns and along nearly 40,000 miles of major highways across the U.S. with typical data connection rates of 70-135 kilobits per second (Kbps).

“Public safety organizations across the country have come to depend on the state-of-the-art wireless solutions from Cingular and BIO-key for their communications needs,” said Laura Johnson, director, enterprise solutions, for Cingular Wireless. “We are pleased to bring this expertise to the seven-county consortium to assist them in providing the residents of south central Tennessee with a higher level of security and safety.”

With BIO-key’s Cingular-enabled MobileCOP solution, as many as 500 public safety providers will have mobile, real time, silent, secure access to local, state and national criminal justice databases for information on suspects, vehicles, and weapons. MobileCOP will also allow users to quickly send messages to others on the system, complete reports in the field and automatically track their activities. Another important component is automatic vehicle location technology that will ensure the closest available units responding to calls for service.

Now it's time to share a secret with you - for some time we've been quietly working on a sequel of even greater proportions. Anthelion 2: Celestial Vigilance is our upcoming sequel to Anthelion. Nov 18 Public Linux Software Development Kit - PowerVR MBX
Published by Vesselin Nerdeff in:Mobile News, Public Linux Software Development Kit - PowerVR MBX

Imagination Technologies has announced the public availability of its latest SDK and toolset for PowerVR MBX content development. This latest public PowerVR MBX SDK adds support for Symbian OS, the operating system that powers many of ’s most popular smartphones. Symbian OS is supported across ARM Versatile and Texas Instruments OMAP2420 platforms.

The public SDK enables OpenGL ES 1.x application development for PowerVR MBX enabled mobile devices across a wide range of OS including Windows PC Emulation, PocketPC (including the Dell Axim X50v/X51v), Symbian (Version 8.1 and 9.1) and Linux (2.4 and 2.6 Kernels). Symbian OS is supported across ARM Versatile and Texas Instruments OMAP2420 platforms.
Says David McBrien, VP business development, Imagination Technologies: “Our public SDKs enable developers, professionals and enthusiasts alike, to actively create content using PowerVR MBX technology. The latest in our series of public PowerVR SDK releases increases the platforms supported with the significant inclusion of Symbian OS. The great strength of our SDK is a comprehensive developer’s toolset, which is the rocket-fuel behind content enablement for PowerVR MBX devices.”
Tools in the latest PowerVR SDK include a comprehensive model exporter; exemplar demos; PowerVR Texture compressor and compression library; a 3D Studio Max exporter; VGP Vertex Program compiler with detailed performance information (clock cycle counts); and an extensive tools library (including fixed/float point maths, matrix and vertex maths, tangent space calculation, geometry import, software bounding box/transform library, print3D for rendering 2D text on-screen, and texture utilities.)
PowerVR MBX has rapidly been established as the de facto standard for high performance graphics and video on mobile phones and PDAs. Imagination Technologies, one of the world’s top ten IP companies (source: Gartner), provides PowerVR IP to partners including Freescale, Intel, Philips, Renesas, Samsung, Sunplus and Texas Instruments. Widespread acceptance of PowerVR by the world's top silicon companies is creating a new, pervasive mobile gaming platform. This has been eagerly adopted by leading mobile device manufacturers and service providers including: NEC, Sharp, Panasonic, Sony Ericsson, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, SK Teletech, NTT DoCoMo (FOMA) and Dell.

As well as access to advanced OpenGL ES 3D hardware functionality the SDK provides full details and specifications of the PowerVR MBX specific OpenGL-ES extensions, which open up features such as PVRTC texture compression and vertex programs.

The demos included in the SDK feature examples of a wide range of effects enabled by PowerVR MBX. These include: dynamic reflections; different texture filter modes; Polybump technology; spherical harmonics lighting with VGP; physics based particle effects; cell-shading; multiple differently coloured spotlights; morphing (in combination with multi-texturing); and matrix skinned characters in combination with DOT3 per pixel lighting.

The public SDK is available now from www.pvrdev.com. Further SDKs are available to professional developers, manufacturers and operators under NDA. For more information about PowerVR MBX see: www.powervr.com. For further information about OpenGL ES see: www.khronos.org.
