Navigation X-950t by Via Michelin with its now-standard SiRFStar III GPS receiver, FM radio, SD slot is designed to make your journey so much better. This GPS enabled navigational system weighs only 138 grams and has a highly sensitive touch screen. Another unique feature is the UKW receiver, which updates traffic conditions every 5 minutes in real time. The traffic service is coded in the format TMC (Traffic Message Channel) and sent over through RDS (radio DATA system) within the UKW range. Other standard features includes information about hotels and other places of interest, and a "Plug and Drive" SD map. No word on pricing yet but it may be available by May.

HandySwitcher, the lightweight task management program that makes it easy for you to manage the running programs on your PocketPC, has just been updated to support WIndows Mobile 5.0, multiple display types and square-screen displays (like Treo 700W for example), D-pad navigation, and several Phone Edition enhancements.

With HandySwitcher 2.7 you can switch between running programs, close unwanted ones to free some memory or even close all of them. This application makes management of the running tasks on your PocketPC a simple tap action in only 75 KB of memory usage.

Some of the features of HandySwitcher 2.7 are:

Mar 31 Treo 700w 240x240 square screen ready software

Many Pocket PC phones nowadays have 240x240 resolution because Windows Mobile 5.0
doesn't support 320x320 resolution and the next square screen resolution supported is 480x480. However when it comes to prices of touch screens, the screens with 480x480 are too expensive, so Pocket PC phone manufacturers, who wanted to use square resolution in order to accommodate a QWERTY keyboard, were forced into 240x240.

Examples of devices sporting the square screens are the Treo 700, HP iPaq HW6515, HW6715, and Fujitsu Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Pocket PC phones. Look for some
others later in the year.

When regular Pocket PC applications and games are run, the square screens cut off the information below the 240 pixel mark. Sometimes, they do scroll but often that's not the case which means that about 25 percent of the display is missing.

The only real solution to this problem is to have software that is designed to accomodate the 240x240 resolution.
