Mar 27 remotePROTECT offers you another way to protect your PPC from stealing

We have recently talked about two newly released applications that may be in great help of you if your pocket pc device was stolen - Ultimate Theft Alert 2.1 and Eye On Thief for Pocket PC. Here is one new addition to this kind of protection pocket pc application. remotePROTECT offers you Total Thief Protection including actions like notification of SIM change, Remote Kill, Remote Lock, Remote Unlock, Retrieve IMSI and IMEI pocket pc details.

If your pocketpc device is stolen and the SIM changed then built in thief protection sends SMS to the user defined telephone number. The SMS messages will include the IMEI and IMSI that is in use , if the SIM allows for the telephone to be sent then this will also be received. Whilst the SMS message is being sent the device will lock so the thief will not have access to your device.

The lock screen can be configured to allow a number of retries before the device will self wipe, removing data from the SD card and hard resting the device.

remotePROTECT Features:

* Thief protection, if the SIM is changed then a SMS (showing the IMEI and IMSI) is sent to a user defined number
* Remote Kill the device , including the SD card
* Remote Lock the device
* Remote Unlock the device
* Retrieve the IMSI and IMEI of the device

The developers from sCPsOFT said that veriosn of this application with support for Windows Mobile 5 will be released until the end of April this year.

CurrencyConv is new FREE application that lets you check out the currency rates and convert a sum from one currency to another. Vicott Wong from mobile-sg.com has just released its first beta version of this pocketpc application. As he said "CurrencyConv is just a simple Currency Conversion utility which has a small footprint of only 30KB for the first beta version.

CurrencyConv for Windows Mobile Pocket PC has hard-coded currency rates and they are based on the rates obtained on 23rd March 2006. The developer promised that in one of the future releases, he will add a feature which will allow the user to download and update the currency rates.

The application works just fine on PPC2000/PPC2002 or Windows Mobile 2003 pocket device.

If you are interested in pocket pc programming here we can show you very easy to use way to do it. About a year ago you were able to produce data collection forms with XSDesigner 1.50 by GrandaSoft in a very easy straight forwarded way. XSDesigner let's you design database forms which save their data in a CDB format (Pocket Access database). After creating your forms you just need to run XSForms to load these forms.

GrandaSoft has released their new application, which is at this moment a public beta and has codename Matador. It supports scripting languages to program logic in the applications you want. Among the supported scripts are VBScript, JScript and event model. The database you create with Matador is generated automaticly and data can be exported to several formats like XML and HTML.

This application is one extremely powerfull and recommend tool for every one of you who is intrested in PDA development and you can give it try. According to GrandaSoft's website there will be free personal version and a professional edition with more features soon.

Mar 26 Turn your Smartphone into USB drive with WM5torage

WM5torage is new application for Windows Mobile Smartphones made by guy called Ingvarr that will let you see internal memory of your smartphone device as a logical USB drive - similarly like Sony PSP and Apple iPod.

This program will export the flash memory card inside the smartphone as usual USB Mass Storage device (ordinary "usb disk") - effectively turning smartphone into flash reader (USB 1.0 only, and not very fast, but it is a USB drive at all!).

Ingvarr said that he has tested WM5torage with HTC Tornado Smartphone and it works fine with it. The application could work with other PDAs and windows mobile phones, however at this stage he can't be sure about compatibility. WM5torage requires Windows Mobile 5 to run properly, because only WM5 allows USB protocol implementation separate from USB hardware driver, which is not allowed in WM2003.

Those of you who will try this program please Don't install it to memory card because when activated, memory card will not be accessible in the smartphone, as all direct access to the flash card will be routed to USB. If you want to uninstall it, I strongly recommend to de-activate mass storage mode first.
