Feb 20 Barablu VoIP for smartphone released
Published by Vesselin Nerdeff in:Software, Smartphone, Freeware, VoIP, Communication, Barablu VoIP for smartphone released

If you have MS Smartphone with Wi-Fi, you can enjoy this new application that gives you the chance to use VoIP over Wi-Fi. It is another new and exciting development in the world of consumer VoIP, but for once it isn't Skype that has taken the lead.

Like Skype, Barablu lets users make PC-to-PC calls, but they take it a step further by also offering mobile to mobile calls. Using a compatible GSM phone with Wi-Fi enabled on it, people can access the VoIP service over a wireless LAN. Calls to other wireless users are then free, but only if they are also Barablu members. Currently, both the Nokia 9500 and i-mate SP5 and SP5m phones are compatible. You just need to download a dialer to your mobile and get registered. You can also make free calls to PCs or anything else you could do with a regular account from your mobile. You can make calls to non-Barablu users as well using the Barablu world account or receive calls from non-users, though there is obviously a fee for both services.

Download your Barablu version here

Feb 17 Symbian Virus Commwarrior.B Affecting Windows Mobile Smartphone
Published by Vesselin Nerdeff in:Mobile News, Smartphone, Symbian, Symbian Virus Commwarrior.B Affecting Windows Mobile Smartphone

As we understand from slashphone.com some smartphone users are reporting to have problem with active sync on Palm Treo 700w smartphone when they have accidentally received symbian virus Commwarrior.B via bluetooth.

In report made by F-secure its said

When user was trying to sync the Treo 700w with PC the desktop Anti-Virus was giving alerts about SymbOS/Commwarrior.B, and both the telecom and phone vendor support were at loss on figuring out what was going on.

When we started helping customer to figure out what was going on it turned out that the customer really had Commwarrior.B on the phone. However this was SymbOS/Commwarrior.B not a new variant, and it was totally harmless in the device. With the exception of causing PC Anti-Virus alarms at sync.

The phone contained several SIS files with random filenames such as n0g5u00p7.sis, which means that the files were received over bluetooth, as the MMS spreading uses a constant filename commw.sis.

So if your antivirus software alerts you for this kind of virus when active syncing don't be surprised!
