The TabletKiosk V7110 UMPC has been announced for sale in the US. TabletKiosk said it will be priced $900 bucks, and TabletKiosk eo V7110 is not only the first UMPC to arrive in the States, but it happens to be the cheapest UMPC announced so far.

Ultra-mobile PC specialist TabletKiosk has unveiled the TufTab, a UMPC hardened against the conditions often found in construction work or simply by everyday users who regularly travel with the handheld. The rubberized case is resistant to dust, rain, and vibration and includes a fingerprint reader for security-conscious owners.

It is tough, light in weight and has a rubberized case resistant to rain, dust, and vibration. For security the handheld is provided with a biometric fingerprint reader. TufTab comes in two color options: Black and White. Just three words give an apt description of TabletKiosk: performance, security and durability. The company will launch TufTab mid-April at an MSRP of $1,699 price with Windows XP. If you choose openSUSE Linux that is somewhat rare option for UMPCs, the price would drop by $75.

Nov 28 Taiwanese smartphone developer chooses Slough for expansion

LONDON — High Tech Computer Corp., the Taiwanese developer of Microsoft Windows Smart Handheld devices, has set up a European office and is to build a multi-million pound senior sales and marketing team based in Slough, England. HTC has worked with Microsoft and key European mobile operators since 2002, with Rene Obermann, the CEO of T-Mobile, Neil Holloway, the President of Microsoft in Europe, Middle East & Africa, and Vivek Badrinath, EVP of Orange, all present at the opening of HTC European office and looking to strengthen their strategic partnerships with HTC.

The new operation should allow HTC to provide existing key partners, including Orange , T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone and Telefonica, as well as new affiliates, a quicker route to market and a better understanding of local nuances.

Peter Chou, President of HTC, said, "Strengthening our presence in Europe is a key milestone for HTC; it clearly demonstrates our strong commitment to delivering the very best-of-class products to our partners."

"Smart phones have become the highest growth sector in the handset market place (IDC). The flexibility of the Windows Mobile platform combined with the opportunities of 3G means that they are no longer the preserve of mobile enterprises but have the potential to hit the broader consumer market. HTC has also set up key distribution partnerships with Dangaard and Brightpoint to retail its own products through the Qtek brand. HTC Corporation, founded on May 15th 1997, specializes in designing and manufacturing mobile computing and communication solutions for OEM and ODM customers. Sales this year will approach $2billion.
