Virtins Technology, which publishes software that uses a PC sound card as the heart of several software instruments, has released a similar program for the Pocket PC.Virtins Pocket Instrument uses the sound card chip in your ppc to turn your windows mobile based handheld into an spectrum analyzer, a oscilloscope , or a signal generator.

The spectrum analyzer lets you view amplitude spectrum and phase spectrum. The signal generator supports multitone generation where you can combine up to 32 tones in each channel. It also supports arbitrary waveform generation through a user-defined waveform library.

The oscilloscope has a selectable sampling frequency of up to 96 kHz, a sampling bit resolution of 8 or 16 bits, and one or two channels.All specs depend on the capabilities of the Pocket PC's sound device.

Virtins Sound Card Instrument features zooming and scrolling function and allocates most of the screen for data display, all of which are essential for you to explore the fine details of the measurement data. In contrast, most of other sound card based instrument spent much precious screen space to simply mimic the panel of the conventional instrument.

This makes Virtins Sound Card Instrument suitable for transient signal recording for up to 500 seconds as long as the memory allows.

Mar 26 Turn your Smartphone into USB drive with WM5torage

WM5torage is new application for Windows Mobile Smartphones made by guy called Ingvarr that will let you see internal memory of your smartphone device as a logical USB drive - similarly like Sony PSP and Apple iPod.

This program will export the flash memory card inside the smartphone as usual USB Mass Storage device (ordinary "usb disk") - effectively turning smartphone into flash reader (USB 1.0 only, and not very fast, but it is a USB drive at all!).

Ingvarr said that he has tested WM5torage with HTC Tornado Smartphone and it works fine with it. The application could work with other PDAs and windows mobile phones, however at this stage he can't be sure about compatibility. WM5torage requires Windows Mobile 5 to run properly, because only WM5 allows USB protocol implementation separate from USB hardware driver, which is not allowed in WM2003.

Those of you who will try this program please Don't install it to memory card because when activated, memory card will not be accessible in the smartphone, as all direct access to the flash card will be routed to USB. If you want to uninstall it, I strongly recommend to de-activate mass storage mode first.

Jul 13 Tweak your Smartphone Media Player to play Full Screen Videos

Ever wanted to play your favourite videos in Full Screen Mode with your Smartphone's Media Player? Here is one tweak which will let video play in full screen in Windows Media Player.

To enable this function you need to do the following steps (i recommend you do a backup of your devices just in case something goes wrong):

1) Open the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/ASFCodecs/Video
2) For each codec listed, change the "Preferred Width" value to 220 and the "Preferred Height" value to 176. If you’ve got a QVGA screen, change the values accordingly.
3) Delete the file "WMPInfo.xml" on the phone.
