To be fair. I think that my phone just doesn't work in SF for some reason. I really wanted your product to work. I'm willing to give your version 1.0 a try.

Great little app. A few issues, minor ones. -The contacts info won't disappear when the box is unchecked. -I input my "home" and "work" addresses but they don't appear on the screen. A huge plus in the coolness factor department is that as you move the street addy appears on the display... very neat. Still playing with it as I get time. Can't wait to get 1.0. Can you guys give us a run down on what will be in the new release and approximately when it will go live? /Regards.
GPSToday wrote...
Splitter, We are looking at the contacts info not disappearing. Did you get the latest version 0.9.1? About the home/work addresses not appearing, GPSToday should automatically pick up modifications/additions to your address book within a few seconds, sometimes more depending on the size of your address book. However, in some cases, some entries might have problems if there is extra information like apartment or suite number etc added to the street address. This is a known issue and will be fixed in later versions.
Cincy1020 wrote...
This software is a very cool idea, but did not work well for me. I kept getting an error, Error Getting Address! This happened, while I had a strong GPS signal, which other software detected with no problem. The map also showed as blank, with just a cursor in the center. I saw a version .9.1 mentioned, but I only see the download link for .9.0 I am attempting to use this on an ATT Tilt (8925). Thanks
GPSToday wrote...
Clincy1020, this sounds like the exact symptoms of your device not being connected to the internet when you tried this, or some other problem with your connection.
Carpe wrote...
I would like to see a support page for this app with some FAQs or some verbiage. It has potential, but you don't stroke the GPS interest of PPC users without more info. Keep up the good work...get gooder.
cincy1020 wrote...
Hi GPS Today: Thanks for your reply. You were correct, I forgot I have my connection set to turn off after 1 minute. It does seem to be working now. The only thing is, it reports my location as a street which is 2 streets away. I have never had this issue with other apps. Anyway, seems like it has lots of potential. Thanks!

GPSToday wrote...
nick, whenever this happens, try opening Google Maps and run the GPS. You will see that it shows the same location as GPSToday. This is an underlying problem in the WM GPS driver.

I know it recommends internal GPS, but will it work with an 8125 using an external bluetooth GPS receiver, like a NavMan? Thanks!
David Williams wrote...
I couldn't use it either, the application worked, but the only features that worked were the map and finding your contacts. That makes me suspect that they just want your contact information! No driving direction, turn by turn or anything else you would expect from using GPS
GPSToday wrote...
David, Huh. If you "suspect" something, you are free not to use GPSToday. Google Maps, Yahoo Go, Microsoft Live Search etc are all free products, and we cannot hope to compete with them if we charge for our basic product. We have not advertised that driving directions are yet available as a feature, but still hundreds of users have found GPSToday useful. We are still just at version 0.9.3, and the best is yet to come.
GPSToday wrote...
Casey, Many users have tried it with a bluetooth receiver and not reported any problems. If your bluetooth GPS is configured correctly in StartMenu>Settings>GPS, and if other programs like Google Maps are able to access it without additional configuration, then it should work just fine in GPSToday.
Casey wrote...
GPST Today: Thanks, Guys, I appreciate your quick response! Good luck with your product and don't let the malcontents here get you down. With all the nasty posts here, you have maintain a great deal of professionalism. :)

This has the potenetial to be a really cool app. Thank you I always apreciate a good free app. I do have a problem with it on my mogul. I can not get it to lock on my location. When I first installed the app. it had a location in my city(milwaukee)but now has nothing. Any help?
GPSToday wrote...
Jake, by default, GPSToday does not attempt to get a lock by itself outside of 8:00am to 8:00pm(can change this in settings). To make sure you get a lock the first time around, go outdoors and slide the red button and drop it over onto the right, and don't let the device turn off until the red button turns fully green. Sometimes the first lock might take as long as 4-5 minutes. Then after a few moments you can stop the GPS by repeating the same sliding motion. Subsequent fixes should now automatically happen much faster.
timex wrote...
Ha-ha! This app made me laugh it's so pathetic. Google maps gets a location which is a quarter-mile off. THIS APP GETS LOCATION 6 MILES OFF ! Not very useful unless you are lost in the wilderness looking for the nearest town :) I am using ATT 8525 WM6
fazluke wrote...
All features work for me, except street address shown on today's screen is off by couple of blocks even my location shown correct on the map.
GPSToday wrote...
timex, It looks like you didn't even start the GPS? The initial estimate shown before you start the GPS is usually something like a nearby city center. And, we know the 8525 does not have a built-in GPS, therefore GPSToday will probably not be very useful to you.
GPSToday wrote...
fazluke, Even though the map location will usually be 100% correct, the street address will be very accurate for some users, and not for some. This field and the data sources are still evolving. As you can see not many other products provide this feature. As all navigation products disclaim, this is meant to be used as an additional piece of information while you travel, do not depend solely on it. As the data sources and algorithms get better, the accuracy will increase automatically, without you having to upgrade your application.

I would just like to go on record as saying this application works better than most GPS Units! With built in directions on the way!!! I live in Chicago and I use this everyday. I just went to Indy last weekend and if it wasn't for this app I would have been stuck with the closure of I-65 South. This helped me pinpoint a route around the construction and whamo....back on my way. MPH dead on and I am always within 6 houses of the address on the screen. GPSToday if you need me to help you in any way please feel free to contact me and thank you for this gem on my today screen! Nick

The next release will have a way to automatically geocode/geotag the pictures you take from your device camera, with the latitude/ longitude/ altitude of your current position. Since every device's camera has its own peculiarities, and we cannot possibly buy each and every device to test it on, it will be helpful if owners of devices with built-in GPS *AND* camera can snap one picture, and email it to us at the email address on the geoterrestrial website support page http://www.geoterrestrial.com/support/ . Please make sure to capture something totally obscure without any identifying information in the picture whatsoever, and just include the model-name and the word "picture" or "pic" or "photo" in the subject. e.g "xv6800 pic", or "att tilt pic" etc. This will allow us to specifically certify the geocoding functionality for a wide variety of devices. We will post daily on the website when we no-longer need sample pictures for a particular model.

It uses Google Maps. Coverage may not be 100% in India, but should be worth checking out. Please note the street-address display feature is not available outside the US, so you could make use of Point (6) in the new feature list in the previous post. All other features should work fine if you have an unlimited data plan on the device.

Please download the latest version 0.98 of GPSToday at http://m.geoterrestrial.com Released May 21, 2008 Now supports the GeoTerrestrial GeoTagger add-on. The GeoTagger add-on can be set to automatically geo-tag (ak geocode) your device pictures as soon as they are taken! The geo-location is added to your pictures JPEG Exif data so you don't need to perform any extra steps or maintain additional pieces of data. Flickr will automatically recognize the geo-location of pictures geo-tagged with GPSToday GeoTagger. Flexible: You are not restricted to automatic geo-tagging with GPS location only. You can geotag pictures with whatever location you want, by selecting the location on the GPSToday map on the device itself! Coming Soon: View your geo-tagged pictures on the map itself within GPSToday. Find pictures "near" a location, from within GPSToday. To install the GeoTagger add-on, update to the latest version of GPSToday, and simply select "GeoTag Pictures" from the Map>More menu in GPSToday.

Nick, Until we start charging for this software, we are not making any money from it(obvious isn't it). But we still have to eat, pay for gas, and families to support, so some of us still have regular day jobs. If we had a crappy product, an employer wouldn't care. But GPSToday has become highly popular and its usage is increasing everyday, hence we will continue to be in stealth-mode until GPSToday generates a sufficient revenue stream for us to quit our day jobs. In the next few months you will see us rolling out more and more paid features that no other similar company/software provides. Thanks.

Quick note about a known issue: If you proceed to install the GeoTagger add-on, please note that unlike the main GPSToday plugin, it is not necessary to install the add-on to main memory. You can install it on the storage card (if you have one) to conserve main memory. The installer does remind you of this, but users have reported that it does so *after* you have already made the choice. Thanks

Please download the latest version 0.9.8.1 of GPSToday at http://m.geoterrestrial.com Released June 12, 2008. *) Now supports VGA resolution! *) If the GeoTagger add-on is installed and running in automatic mode, it will now restart itself if the device is soft-reset or if the today screen is reloaded. *) Instead of street address, you can now save latitude/longitude/altitude to contacts in your address book. Great for saving specific locations "out in the wild"! *) Now find points on the map by specifying latitude/longitude.
alessio wrote...
does this software work in italy too ? Thx
GPSToday wrote...
Hi alessio, Outside the US, the app will not be able to show your street address on the today screen, and it will not be able to fetch street addresses for points on the map outside the US. You can thus un-check the "Show Address on Today Screen" option in Settings. This will conserve CPU and battery power for you as it will stop trying to get the street address for your location, and it will instead show latitude/longitude/altitude and time of last fix on the today screen. Also, some international users have reported that the date format difference in Europe (dd/mmy/yyyy) prevents the geotagger from finding recent pictures, but please try this on your own to see if it works for you. Everything else should work.

Kermode, GPSToday does far more than initially visible. If all you want is raw co-ordinates to be displayed on your today screen, yes, you can just enable the option "Disable Data at all times", and uncheck the option "Show Street Address on Today screen". The GeoTagger will continue to work, as will also the upcoming GeoTerrestrial GeoLogger. But without data-acess you will not get the street address of your location, neither the maps, nor local search, and neither the upcoming GeoTerrestrial GeoWeather, which will work to always show you the current weather for your current location on the today screen.

GPSToday wrote...
Hi Chuck, the Mogul has had a history of GPS related issues, with all the various ROMs/Radios etc floating around to expose the previously hidden GPS chip. GPSToday depends on the WM OS GPS supplied driver to function properly, which is apparently not configured properly in many of the mogul roms around. We suggest you head over to http://forum.ppcgeeks.com to find solutions. Thanks

sueln, From what we know the 8525 does not have an inbuilt GPS, so GPSToday might be of limited use to you. However, if you have an external bluetooth GPS that works with your device, then yes, GPSToday will work fine with that over the ATT network.

Brad, did you start the logger by going to Map->More->GeoLogger? There you have choose the directory and filename and tap on Start. If you start a new log by specifying a new filename, an empty log file will get created immediately. Also, an entry is logged whenever the GPS obtains a fix regardless of whether you moved or not, and also an entry is logged when you choose "Log to file" from the Map->More->Map Position menu.

Hi magqcc7, The street-address will never be 100% accurate for everybody, simply because data sources only have house number ranges per street, not the exact location of every individual house. Please note that the position on the map will still be accurate. (to get support by email you need to post your queries on the geoterrestrial forum at http://forum.geoterrestrial.com/ :) ) Thanks

Hi all, if interested please try out the latest beta-release of GPSToday at http://forum.geoterrestrial.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=136 1) Street-address and weather now supported for many countries. 2) Driving directions! 3) Log file plotting on map and animated \"playback\". Also, the geologger will now never clip corners, and will perfectly follow loopy highway ramps. 4) Location Tracking and sharing (GeoLocation) 5) Easily and privately (or publicly) share points-of-interest, pictures, messages with like-minded folks (GeoGroups) 6) Satellite,Hybrid map views, and many more enhancements for ease of use. 8) Essentially the works, all in a still small package.
Veselin Nedeff wrote...
It is for sure one of the coolest and feature richest free GPS applications!
GPSToday wrote...
Well, now that the beta is out of the bag, please bear with us while we add weather support for more countries. If GPSToday is not reporting a nearby weather for you please let us know the country name so we can expedite. Thanks

I\'ve loved this app, since itr came out, and this new one has so many features, but is there anyway to run on the today screen like the older versions 0991 I think. I would like to keep the today screen one and be able to switch from it to the new full screen mode. Is that possible ?
GPSToday wrote...
Hi Veselin, we\'ve just added Bulgaria. If you refresh your weather by opening the map and doing a \"Show weather\" on a nearby location now, it should show weather from a nearby local city.
GPSToday wrote...
Hi Brent, The today-plugin version will be released sometime next week, with all the same features. But as of this moment we do not have plans to combine both today-screen and full-screen versions into one single app. Thanks

well Ill be happy with just the the today style app, thanks for your time

i am using HTC Touch HD...Please help me out from the follwoing issue.
GPSToday wrote...
Hi Aamir, Regardless of whether the software caused the problem or not, once you have done a hard-reset there is no way it can still be affecting your device. We would advise you to retrace your steps and note down all the softwares you installed recently and check out each one of them. Also, are you sure you did a hard reset (where the device is completely re-initialized to factory settings), or you only did a soft-reset which is more like a restart? Failing that, it is probably advisable to seek community support on forums like ppcgeeks.
GPSToday wrote...
cukimai, if you configure your bluetooth gps properly through the \'External GPS\' applet in WM settings, then yes, GPSToday works fine with a bluetooth gps.
GPSToday wrote...
All please note that this is still a beta release of the software that was meant for testing only, and you should install it only if you are willing to try it out.

GPSToday wrote...
ramsis, please take up your issue with the ISO org that maintains country codes at http://www.iso.org/iso/english_country_names_and_code_elements

YDBC1111, palo alto is the default map location if your gps has never been run once. you need to tap the red icon in the bottom-left of the app after going outdoors and wait until it turns green.

GPSToday wrote...
Sheri, Showing your address book contacts on the map is a feature of GPSToday since more than a year, even before all the social networking features were added, and it is mentioned in the feature list. About the tracking and location sharing, it is all disabled by default when you install the software. You can see others only because they have specifically shared their location. Remember that you can access all the public POIs and user-locations in the social network, without having to be active in it yourself(as a read-only member). You can choose to disable even that if you wish and use GPSToday solely for its offline features like the geologger, the geotagger etc.

11-14-2009-- Exceptional program. It is easily downloaded form their website. And it is easily installed on your mobile phone. There is only one small problem, it does not do anything! It does not work. It asks you to register at some geosomthing site, and that is supposed to give you some glorious combination code to start the program. Why this tiny bit of info is not mentioned anywhere on their website makes me suspicious of the intentions of the program. I wonder if it also Uninstalls just as wonderfully easily as it installed.
GPSToday wrote...
USA(and all users reading this note): The program REQUIRES sign-up before any features will be accessible. The upcoming version will add information prompts during the installation itself about this requirement, so there will be no unexpected surprises. That being said, nothing stops you from making a dummy gmail accnt just to register. All the online services provided by GPSToday including maps, street-addresses,weather-updates etc incur a real cost on the server, and an explicit login is the only way to prevent malicious invdividuals from using the services in their own software (which some are always attempting to do). Secondly, the login allows users to OPTIONALLY get access to/pay for various kinds of data, including speed traps, weather alerts, earthquake alerts, and lots more, right from within the program itself. The login is mandatory, everything else is optional. Your choice.
